Candidate Nominations

Before Filing your Candidate Nomination

Candidates are encouraged to:

• Review the website and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs Candidates’ Guide which is typically updated in April. 
• Review the Ontario Education Services Corporation Guide for School Board Trustees. 
• Understand financial responsibilities, campaign rules, and potential penalties by reviewing the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

School Board Trustee Candidate Nomination

Nominations for School Board Trustees are not filed at the Town of Stouffville. Please visit the applicable Municipal website below for additional information and processes related to filing a nomination for School Board Trustee.

Nomination Requirements

• Nomination forms must be filed in person at the Municipal Office, by appointment only. Please use the calendar provided to book your appointment.
  • Note: Appointments may only be scheduled beginning May 1, 2026.
• The candidate information package can be picked up at the Municipal Office during regular business hours. Please pick this package up in advance of your appointment and come with the required forms filled out in advance.
  • Note: You do not need an appointment to pick up the package

• Required documents:
  1. Proof of Identification 
  2. Completed Nomination Paper (Form 1)
  3. Completed Endorsement of Nomination (Form 2) 
  4. Form EL14-WS – Candidate’s Declaration – Proper Use of Voters’ List
  5. Form EL52A-WS – Consent to Release Personal Information
  6. Form WS01 – Notice of Penalty for Candidates
  7. Filing fee 
  8. Municipal Election Sign Fee ($297, if applicable)
• If filing via an agent, an Agent Appointment Form is required.

Please note, all forms submitted to the Clerk are public documents and may be viewed by the Public.

Nomination Period

• Nominations will be accepted from Friday, May 1, 2026 until close of Nomination Day (as listed below)
• Nomination Day: Friday, August 21, 2026, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Filing Fees 

Please note, fees are subject to change by the Provincial Government, and are prescribed under O. Reg. 101/97.

• Mayor: $200.00
• Councillor: $100.00
• Filing fee is a personal expense, not a campaign expense, returned upon submission of a complete campaign financial statement.

Certification of Nomination Papers

• The Clerk, or their designate will certify nominations by Monday, August 24, 2026.
• Nominations may be rejected if forms are incomplete, identification not provided, filing fees are not paid, or the candidate is not qualified.
• Certification decisions are final.
