The next municipal election will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026, to fill the offices of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville Council, comprised of one Mayor and six Councillors.

The Town has six wards — two in rural areas and four in urban areas — each represented by one Councillor.

In addition, School Board Trustees will be elected for the:

• York Region District School Board,
• York Catholic District School Board,
• Conseil scolaire Viamonde, and
• Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir.

Voter Eligibility and Registration

To vote in the 2026 Municipal Election, you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and a resident, owner, or tenant in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Each voter may vote only once in the municipality, even if they own multiple properties.

Eligible voters must appear on the Municipal Voters’ List. If you’ve recently turned 18, changed your name, or moved, it’s important to confirm your voter information in advance. Revisions to the Voters’ List can also be made at your voting location by presenting acceptable identification that shows your name and qualifying address.

You can check if you are registered or update your voter information by visiting the Register to Vote website. Elections Ontario has provided a comprehensive FAQ to help answer any questions you may have about voter registration.

If you cannot attend in person on Voting Day, you may appoint another eligible voter to vote on your behalf through a proxy arrangement. Details and forms will be made available closer to the election.

School support designation helps property owners and tenants identify which school board they wish to support in a school board election and appropriately allocate school support funding to the board of choice. As per legislation, your school support defaults to the English Public school board. The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) manages school support designations. To learn more about school board designations and/or to change your school board designation, please visit mpac.ca/schoolsupport. 

The deadline to review and update your school support designation through MPAC for the 2026 Municipal Election is June 1, 2026. 

Candidates and Campaigns

Individuals interested in running for office may file nomination papers with the Clerk’s Office between May 1 and August 21, 2026, at 2 PM. Campaigning can begin once nomination papers are officially filed.

During the campaign period, candidates and third-party advertisers must follow all relevant municipal by-laws, provincial legislation, and financial reporting requirements.

Results

Official results for the 2026 Municipal Election will be posted following Voting Day on October 26, 2026.
