Election Jobs

In addition to meeting any requirements outlined for each specific position, you are eligible to apply for an election worker position if you meet the following criteria:

• 16 years of age or older on the voting day you are working
• Legally entitled to work in Canada
• You are not a candidate or a direct relative to a candidate running in the 2026 Municipal Election
• You are not volunteering for a candidate running in the 2026 Municipal Election
• You have access to a vehicle or guaranteed transportation to and from your assigned voting place and Municipal Office
• You are available to attend a 2-hour mandatory training session, up to one month prior to the assigned date of work

Deputy Returning Officer (DRO)
(Rate of Pay: $300, includes training and any mileage incurred)

The DRO is responsible for confirming voter identification, maintaining the official Voters’ List, issuing correct ballots, instructing the voter on voting procedure and administering oaths as required. The DRO reconciles ballots by type and number and completes forms prior to and after the close of the voting place. The DRO also assists with setting up and closing of the voting place and transporting supplies, as required.

Tabulator Operator (TO)
(Rate of Pay: $300, includes training and any mileage incurred)

The TO is responsible for picking up the vote tabulator from the Election Headquarters and transferring the equipment to the voting place on Voting Day and completing the set up. The TO processes ballots issued by the DRO using the optical scan automated vote counting tabulators ensuring access and secrecy. Immediately after the close of the voting place, the TO will print the results and pack up the vote tabulator and tabulator stand. The TO returns the vote tabulator equipment, the memory card and results tape to Election Headquarters immediately after the closing of the voting place. The TO also assists with setting up and closing of the voting place and transporting supplies, as required. The TO must have experience in another election event.

Revision Officer (RO)
(Rate of Pay: $300, includes training and any mileage incurred)

The RO is responsible for processing amendments to the Voters’ List, such as adding voter’s or correcting voter information. The RO confirms identification requirements, instructs and assists with the completion of required forms, making amendments to the Voters' List and directing the voters to the Ballot Issuing DRO. The RO also assist with setting up and closing of the voting place and transporting supplies, as required.

Stand-By
(Rate of Pay: $50, includes training and any mileage incurred)

The Stand-By worker is responsible for showing up at the Election Headquarters and is prepared to be deployed to fill any vacant position at any voting location. If deployed, the rate of pay will correspond to the position assigned on Voting Day.

• Compensation for the mandatory training session and any mileage or other transportation costs associated with duties are included in the rate of pay. Rates of pay are for each day worked.
