Joint Compliance Audit Committee Requests
The Municipal Elections Act, 1996 requires all municipalities to appoint a Compliance Audit Committee. The Town of Stouffville participates in a Joint Compliance Audit Committee.
The Joint Compliance Audit Committee is responsible for:
- Determining if an application for a compliance audit, as filed by an eligible Elector, should be granted or rejected; and
- Appointing an auditor, if the application is granted; and
- Determining, based on the auditor's report, if legal proceedings should be commenced; and
- Reviewing any apparent over-contributions by contributors to candidates' and third party advertisers' campaigns.
If an Elector, eligible to vote in the Town of Stouffville's municipal election, has reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate or registered third party advertiser has contravened the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 with respect to municipal campaign finances, the Elector may apply for an audit of the candidate's campaign finances.
Compliance audit requests related to school board trustee candidates are the responsibility of the Compliance Audit Committee appointed by each school board. For more information about compliance audits of school board trustee candidates, please contact the specific school board directly.
