Memorial Park Skating Trail – Rules and Guidelines
The Memorial Park Skating Trail is officially open as of December 14! We’re excited to offer a safe and enjoyable space for everyone to experience the joy of skating. Please review the following rules and guidelines to help ensure a positive experience for all visitors.
Trail Hours of Operation
Regular hours: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM, 7 days a week
Trail Holiday Hours
- December 24: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- December 25: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Ice only, no amenities available)
- December 26: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- December 31: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- January 1: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Skate Rentals and Sharpening
Visit Cutting Edge for skate rentals and sharpening services, available at Clippers Arena and Ninth Line Arena.
Operating Hours and Trail Safety
- The skating trail is open only during operation hours and when the ice surface is deemed safe.
- The trail may close at any time for maintenance, weather conditions, or safety concerns. Please check posted signs or the Town’s website for updates.
- This is an unsupervised skating trail, and participants use the trail at their own risk.
Code of Conduct
To maintain a welcoming and safe environment:
- Foul language or inappropriate behaviour is not tolerated.
- Be courteous and respectful to all visitors, including skaters, pedestrians, and those on the sidelines.
- Hockey, shinny, sticks, and pucks are not allowed.
- Throwing or spraying snow is prohibited.
- Unsafe activities, such as speeding, figure skating, backwards skating, horseplay, or carrying children on the ice, are not permitted.
- Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or inappropriate behaviour to Town staff immediately.
- You may be asked to leave the trail for unsafe or hazardous activities.
Skating Trail User Guidelines
To ensure the safety of all skaters:
- Bring your own skates. Skates must be in good condition, and no shoes, boots, or inappropriate footwear are permitted on the ice.
- Helmets are recommended:
- CSA-approved helmets with full facemasks for children under 5.
- CSA-approved helmets for children up to high school age.
- All skaters under 10 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Skating direction:
- Skate in the same direction as others.
- Maintain a moderate speed and safe distance between yourself and others.
- No standing on the trail to avoid collisions. Use designated areas for breaks or adjustments.
- Ice resurfacing:
- Periodic resurfacing will occur throughout the day. All skaters must clear the trail during this time.
Additional Rules
- Pets, strollers, food/drink, and handheld devices are not permitted on the ice.
- Private lessons/coaching on the ice is strictly prohibited.
- Skaters are responsible for their personal belongings. The Town is not liable for lost or stolen items.
- Wheelchair use and personal assistance skating devices are permitted when accompanied by a participant at all times.

As a condition of your use of the skating trail, you assume all risk of personal injury, death, and/or property damage or loss resulting from any cause whatsoever, including but not limited to the inherent risks of skating, collisions with other skaters, off-ice related injuries, as well as any negligence, breach of contract, breach of statutory duty of care, or breach of the Occupier’s Liability Act on the part of the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and its elected officials and employees (the “Town”).
By using the skating trail, you agree that the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville shall not be liable for any such personal injury, death, and/or property loss or damage, and thereby release the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and waive all claims with respect thereto.
The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville’s liability is excluded by the terms of these conditions.
