Stouffville Appoints Resident Brian Mangubat As Town Crier

The Town of Stouffville is proud to announce the official appointment of its new Town Crier, Brian Mangubat, the first to hold the role since 2016.
The return of the Town Crier pays homage to Marcel Bossi, who unofficially began appearing at events in 1989 and was formally appointed in 1990. He served until his passing in 2016 and was beloved for his charismatic presence at both local and Toronto-area events.
A Stouffville resident of nearly 20 years, Mangubat brings a powerful voice, a warm spirit, and a deep love for the community to the role. With a professional background in the entertainment industry and a passion for civic storytelling, he will serve as a ceremonial ambassador, representing Stouffville at official events, festivals, and public celebrations.
“Bringing back the role of the Town Crier is both a tribute to our past and a joyful step forward,” said Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt. “Marcel Bossi’s legacy lives on in Stouffville’s collective memory, and we’re thrilled to once again hear the ringing bell and resounding voice that connects us to our roots. This is an exciting moment for our town.”
The position was open to all residents through a public application process, which included written submissions, a video audition, in-person demonstrations in Council Chambers, and extensive interviews. Applicants were judged on voice projection, historical knowledge, community spirit, and stage presence. The selection committee was deeply impressed by the level of passion and talent among those who applied.
“It was truly difficult to select just one individual,” said Shannon Jaffer, Manager of Heritage, Events and Theatre Operations. “We were blown away by the number of passionate community members who stepped forward. Brian stood out, not only because of his strong performance background and deep roots in the community, but also for his genuinely warm and approachable nature. We’re so excited to see him step into this historic role.”
