ELECTION 2022

Stouffville Encourages Residents To Vote In 2022 Municipal Election

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is encouraging residents to get out and vote this Municipal Election on October 24th, 2022 or the Advance Vote days on October 8th and 15th.

Those who live or own property in Stouffville, are Canadian citizens and are at least 18 years of age or older, are eligible to vote. Voters will be selecting a Mayor, a Ward Councillor and a School Board Trustee. Town Council is comprised of one Mayor and six Councillors. The Councillors represent six wards - two in "rural" areas and four in "urban" areas.

A ward boundary review was conducted in 2020 that established new boundaries for 2022 Municipal Election and electors may be voting in a new ward than in the 2018 election. Residents can use the Town’s interactive ward boundary map to input their address and see the ward they are voting in and voting locations.

The Town also has two Advance Vote Days to allow residents to vote early. The first advance vote date is on Saturday, October 8th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 55+ Club (6240 Main Street), Municipal Offices at (111 Sandiford Drive) and Ballantrae Community Centre (5592 Aurora Road). The 6240 location will be open for all wards to vote in and is also taking place during the final Stouffville Market of the season. Due to the market taking place, there will be no on-site parking at this location.

The second Advance Vote Day is on Saturday, October 15th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Municipal Offices (111 Sandiford Drive) and Ballantrae Community Centre (5592 Aurora Road). Voters living in Wards 1, 2, 3 will be voting at Ballantrae Community Centre and residents from Wards 4, 5, 6 will be voting at the Municipal Offices. Accessible voting equipment will only be available at the advance vote locations of the Municipal Offices and Ballantrae Community Centre.

Municipal government provides services that have a direct impact on our day-to-day lives. These services include waste management, animal control, snow plowing, road maintenance, parks, trails, arenas, libraries, leisure services, fire and emergency services, by-law services, economic development and more. Your vote will impact the current and future sustainability of your community. Your vote is your opportunity - your chance - to send a message about how you want your community governed.

Council passed a by-law on December 7, 2021, authorizing the use of automated voting equipment for the 2022 Municipal Election. The Town is hosting a Tabulator Public Information Session on Wednesday, October 5 at 5 p.m. in Council Chamber at Municipal Offices (111 Sandiford Drive) to provide an opportunity for members of the public to observe the testing process of the equipment.

Voters must be on the Municipal Voters' List in order to vote in the Municipal Election. If you were on previous Federal or Provincial voters' lists, it does not mean you are on the Municipal Voters' List. Your name may not appear on the Voters’ List if you have recently turned 18, changed your name, or moved to a new home. The Town strongly encourages voters to ensure they are on the voters list to help avoid delays at the poll on Election Day.

If an elector is unable to make it to a poll for any of the voting days they may appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf if they are unable to do so. The proxy must be eligible to vote in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. Electors will have to complete an Appointment for Voting Proxy form and make an appointment with Clerk's staff at elections@townofws.ca for certification.

Every vote counts. Don’t miss your opportunity to make a difference in the future of Whitchurch-Stouffville.
