Town of Stouffville Remembers Community Leader and Former Councillor Cliff Dunkeld

The Town of Stouffville is mourning the passing of former Councillor and lifelong community champion Cliff Dunkeld, who passed away on December 30, 2025, at the age of 94.

Cliff Dunkeld served on Stouffville Council from 1991 to 2003, playing a key role in shaping the community during a period of significant growth and change. Widely respected for his integrity, kindness, and tireless dedication, Cliff’s contributions extended far beyond his time in elected office.

“Cliff was more than a Councillor - he was a true community builder,” said Stouffville Mayor Iain Lovatt. “As we serve residents today, we do so in the shadows of leaders like Cliff. His legacy continues to guide and inspire us.”

In recognition of his lifelong service, Cliff was named Citizen of the Year in 2006, an honour that reflected decades of volunteerism and advocacy. He was especially passionate about community sport, serving as a trailblazer for girls’ hockey and women’s fastball. His impact on athletics earned him induction into the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Hall of Fame.

Cliff’s commitment to service was unwavering. He was a Past President of the Stouffville Lions Club and exemplified the spirit of giving back throughout his life.

“Cliff gave selflessly to this community in so many ways,” added Mayor Lovatt. “His warmth, leadership, and advocacy will be deeply missed, but his impact will be felt for generations.”

The Town extends its sincere condolences to Cliff Dunkeld’s family, friends, and the many residents whose lives he touched.

Flags will be lowered to half-mast at all Town facilities in honour of Cliff.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 11th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the O'Neill Funeral Home (6324 Main St., Stouffville, ON L4A1G9). A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 12th from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location.
