To make the budget process more transparent and community-focused, the Town is expanding public engagement opportunities and encouraging residents to get involved.

How the Budget Process Works

Each year, the Town undergoes a robust process to create an annual budget that delivers the services and programs residents and businesses rely on each day.

August 13, 2026

Timeline:

Phase 1: Prepare

  • May 2026: Budget timetable is approved by Council.

Phase 2: Budget Public Engagement

  • June/July/August 2026: Engage community in Budget consultations through Budget survey, Town events and social media.
  • August 2026: Consolidate Community feedback, report back on results
  • TBD: Mayor’s Town Hall to further engage the community

Phase 3: Develop

  • August/September 2026: Staff begin work on Operating and Capital Budgets
  • September/October 2026: Use the results on community engagement to refine the budgets
  • November/December 2026: Mayor consultation with Members of Council

Phase 4: Budget Adoption

  • January 2027: Mayor tables 2027 Budget
  • January/February 2027: Council reviews the Budget and can bring forward Budget amendments
  • February 2027: Budget adoption

Phase 5: Communicate

  • February 2027: Produce final Engagement report detailing results on the engagement and its impact on Budgets
