WINTER ROADS

Sidewalk Clearing

Stouffville provides snow clearing and sanding during the winter season for all sidewalks within the Community of Stouffville, Ballantrae and Gormley. The Town does not maintain sidewalks on private property such as condominiums and commercial properties.

The plowing and / or sanding of sidewalks commences when snow begins to accumulate. The plowing and sanding of sidewalks is normally completed within twenty-four (24) hours after the end of a snowfall.  The Town will re-sand sidewalks, as required, to avoid icy conditions after snow clearing is complete.

Hydrant Obstructions

Hydrants must be kept clear and unobstructed at all times according to the Ontario Fire Code Regulation 213/07 and By-law 96-187-WS.

If you have a fire hydrant on your property or Town property adjacent to yours, it is your responsibly to ensure the hydrant is visible and unobstructed at all times. This includes ensuring hydrants:

  • have at least 2 meters of space around them at all times
  • are clear of snow, trees and other vegetation

If an owner fails to provide the proper clearances on or around a hydrant after being notified to do so by the Town, the Town may remove the obstructions or encroachments and the owner will be required to pay all costs associated with the removal.
