GARBAGE, RECYCLING & COMPOSTING

Yard Waste

The Town of Stouffville provides curbside collection for yard waste every other week from April to November. View our waste collection calendar to find out when to put out yard waste based on where you live.

We accept the following types of yard waste:

  • Fine brush
  • Leaves
  • Plants
  • Tree clippings
  • Branches- must be bundled. Bundles must be no larger than 2 feet high by 3 feet long. Branches larger than 3 inches in diameter are not accepted curbside.

How to dispose of yard waste

Please put all yard waste in paper yard waste bags or an open-top garbage container clearly labelled with a yellow yard waste sticker. You can pick up yard waste stickers from Town Hall at 111 Sandiford Dr. We will not collect yard waste in cardboard boxes, blue boxes or containers that look like blue boxes.

Please do not place yard waste bags at the curb before collection day. This can cause bags to break down and rip or fall apart. We will not collect ripped or torn bags.

Yard waste we don't accept

We will not pick up:

  • Animal droppings
  • Anything in clear, opaque or orange bags
  • Driveway and road sweepings
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Grass clippings
  • Rocks
  • Root balls
  • Ripped or torn bags
  • Stumps
  • Topsoil

Backyard composting

Backyard composting is a great alternative to disposing of your yard waste. Create your own natural mulch by composting leaves, tree and grass clippings and brush. Spreading grass clippings over your lawn creates a natural fertilizer and keeps weeds away.

You can buy a backyard composter from our Customer Service Centre in Town Hall at 111 Sandiford Dr.
