Before planning your building or renovation project in the Town of Stouffville, review the zoning laws and other applicable laws that apply to your project.

The Zoning By-law controls the use of land in our community, including:

• How land may be used
• The lot sizes and dimensions, parking requirements, building heights and setbacks from the street
• The types of buildings that are permitted and how they may be used
• Where buildings and other structures can be located

In addition to zoning requirements, some building and renovation projects need to comply with other applicable laws in order to receive a building permit. • Areas regulated by conservation authorities, Toronto Region or Lake Simcoe Region
• Ministry of Transportation (MTO) in highway corridors
• Site Plan Control Areas

When you apply for a building permit, you will submit an Applicable Law Checklist with the ones that apply to your project.
