STOUFFVILLE

Road Watch

Road Watch is a program that provides residents the opportunity to improve road safety within their community. Residents can collect information on the date, location, vehicle description, plate number and driver description to assist York Regional Police on controlling unsafe and dangerous driving in Whitchurch-Stouffville. You can help your community and assist the Police by completing a Citizen Report Form when you observe dangerous and aggressive driving. Note as much information as possible about the incident that you witness. Citizen Report Forms can be dropped off at any of the drop box locations throughout the Town.

When submitting the report form, please include your name, address, telephone number and signature. This helps safe guard the system against the abuse. Any personal information is for statistical use only and is held in the strictest confidence.

Drivers who are reported will receive a letter from York Regional Police describing the unsafe or aggressive driving incident that was witnessed. If a driver receives more than one report, the Police will make personal contact with that individual regarding the reported incidents.

You can now file a report online.

Safe Roads, Safe Stouffville

Safety is a shared community responsibility. Whether you're driving, walking, or cycling, small actions can make a big difference. Our roads are used by everyone — children heading to school, cyclists commuting, and drivers navigating our neighborhoods. By following these simple safety tips, we can keep Stouffville’s streets safe, calm, and connected for all.

Slow Down in Residential Areas – Speeding in neighborhoods increases the risk of accidents with pedestrians, cyclists, and pets.

Watch for Speed Limit Changes – Pay attention to speed limit signs, especially as you approach school zones and busy areas.

Drive Defensively – Be prepared for unexpected stops from other drivers, cyclists, or wildlife.

Plan for Weather Changes – Wet, snowy, or icy roads reduce traction, so slow down during bad weather.

Respect Automatic Speed Enforcement – Speed cameras will soon be active in key areas to encourage safer driving habits.

Follow the Posted School Zone Speed Limits – Lower speed limits protect children who may be walking, biking, or crossing the street.

Stop for School Buses – It’s the law to stop for school buses when their red lights are flashing. Fines and demerit points apply for violations.

Watch for Crossing Guards – Crossing guards play a vital role in student safety. Follow their instructions and stop when required.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Zones – Use designated drop-off and pick-up areas to avoid congestion and confusion. Never park in a fire route.

No Distractions – Avoid phone use and other distractions while driving through school zones.

Share the Road – Cyclists have the right to use the road, so give them space when passing. The law requires at least 1 meter of clearance.

Check for Cyclists Before Turning – Look both ways for cyclists before making a turn or opening your car door.

Watch for Cyclists in School Zones – Students may bike to school, especially during warmer months. Be extra cautious near schools.
