PARKS AND OPEN SPACES

Toboggan Hills

Toboggan hill

The Town does not maintain open areas often used for winter activities, including the toboggan hill. Please use outdoor areas at your own risk and follow these guidelines:

  • Choose a hill with a gentle slope and make sure that there is enough room to stop.
  • Check the hill for any potential hazards.
  • Hazards can be difficult to see.
  • Toboggan when you can clearly see and be seen by others.
  • Control your speed; steer carefully and be prepared to stop quickly.
  • Be sure your toboggan is in good condition.
  • Wear a helmet to help prevent head injuries.
  • Avoid frostbite by dressing in layers; keep your head, ears, and hands covered.
  • Wear bright coloured and reflective clothing.
  • Scarves, drawstrings, and long hair can get snagged – tuck these inside your coat.
  • Always sit or kneel facing forward.
  • Make sure that everyone is out of the way before starting down the hill.
  • Toboggan down the middle of the hill; use the sides to walk to the top.
  • When buying a sled or toboggan, note any age restrictions.
  • Carry only the recommended number of passengers on a toboggan.
  • Adults should always supervise and accompany children tobogganing.
  • For any questions, or to report any safety concerns, please call the Town at 905-642-7529
  • For more information, visit SMARTRISK

Please note tobogganing is only permitted at Memorial Park.
